Ideas are Like Steak

Ideas are like steak.  I prefer my ideas a little underdone.

Let me explain.

On the rare (pun intended) instances Kara and I opt to go out for steak (I prefer grilling myself) I will order my steak MEDIUM, sometimes MEDIUM RARE.

There is this ONE PLACE where the wait staff asks you to cut into your steak before they leave, just to make sure they got it right.

9 times out of 10, they get it PERFECT.

1 time out of 10, they get it PERFECT because they can throw it back on the grill, because it’s just a little underdone.

I like my ideas underdone.  Serve them to me before they are cooked.  I need to be able to comment on it, make sure I understand it, and contribute to the idea before it is shared.

The great thing about an under cooked idea, is that if you serve it up and ask the question “can you cut into that for me and tell me what you think.”  You can NEVER EVER mess that idea up.  That idea can only get better and better.

OVERCOOK an idea.  Sit on it too long.  Well, there is no going back.  It’s overcooked and I will send it back to the kitchen.  Probably ready to order something else.

So if you wait and wait and wait to serve an idea to a group of people who can take that idea and make it soar, then you are overcooking your steak.  NO REAL STEAK LOVER (IDEA LOVER) will stick around for that!
